Sectors — ScanSustain in the field

Five sectors, one shared standard: audit-grade underwater diagnostics with a reproducible process. Each sector has its own detail page with typical problem contexts, matching services and concrete deliverable formats.

Each sector brings its own requirements — asset types, reporting formats, inspection cycles and regulatory context. The sector paths below lead directly to the relevant service bundle and to case studies from practice.

Problem and solution logic per sector

The short description per sector — so you can see in one minute which sector page fits your project.

Ports & Marine Construction

Problem: Ageing quay walls, dolphins and sheet piles that must be documented during ongoing harbour operations, without interrupting shipping or handling.

Solution: ROV inspection with position-referenced findings capture, combinable with sonar in turbid water and with survey for 3D as-built books. For recurring inspections as a monitoring programme.

Typical deliverables: Structured findings report, damage classification, reproducibility memo for follow-up inspections.

Authorities & Municipalities

Problem: Routine structural inspection underwater must be administration-ready and comparable across years — the underwater section is historically the weakest part of the inspection file.

Solution: ROV inspection according to agreed protocol, converted into a monitoring programme. Format and structure are clarified in advance with the reviewing body.

Typical deliverables: Inspection-guideline compliant report, time-series reference, action recommendations for maintenance or restoration.

Industry & Energy

Problem: Cooling water, process water and treatment basins are typically turbid — and a plant shutdown for diver inspection is often economically impossible.

Solution: Combined ROV and sonar mission during ongoing operations. Sonar delivers geometry where visibility is missing, the ROV camera verifies candidate points. Results fit into existing maintenance systems.

Typical deliverables: Findings report with plant coordinates, compliance evidence, baseline for annual monitoring.

Environment & Conservation

Problem: EIA procedures, protected-area assessments and restoration projects need a baseline captured reproducibly and non-invasively — diver interventions disturb the observed object.

Solution: Habitat mapping with ROV and sonar, classified by substrate, vegetation and structural features. Logged so that follow-up surveys can use the same route.

Typical deliverables: Georeferenced habitat dataset, classified technical report, reproducibility memo.

Insurance & Expert Witness

Problem: After a damage event the position, state and surroundings must be fixed audit-grade before recovery or repair. Verbal diver protocols are not sufficient.

Solution: Search & recovery mission with documented search strategy, localisation and evidence preservation. Unaltered raw data remains court-usable.

Typical deliverables: Search protocol with coverage record, find report, evidence data package.

How ScanSustain works with your sector

Regardless of sector, every mission follows the same structured process. That makes results comparable and gives engineering offices, authorities, operators and expert witnesses a shared data basis.

Frequently asked questions

Which sectors does ScanSustain serve?

ScanSustain serves five core sectors: Ports & Marine Construction, Authorities & Municipalities, Industry & Energy, Environment & Conservation, and Insurance & Expert Witness. For each sector there is a dedicated detail page with typical applications, matching services and deliverables.

How do I find the right sector for my project?

Orient yourself by your role (operator, inspector, expert witness, planner) and by the asset type (harbour structure, bridge, industrial basin, protected area, damage case). If none of the five sectors fits exactly, we evaluate in the briefing how ScanSustain can support your project.

Can ScanSustain work across sectors?

Yes. Many projects deliberately lie between two sectors — for example a municipal harbour facility or an industrial cooling water basin with an environmental permit. In those cases we combine the perspectives of both sectors in a single mission.

Which deliverable formats are standard?

Structured findings reports with image references, position-referenced raw data and a reproducibility memo for follow-up missions. Additional formats (CAD, GIS, 3D models) are agreed in the briefing.
